An incident of ‘moral policing’ took place in Kolkata. A young couple travelling in the Kolkata Metro were reportedly harassed and thrashed by some of their co-passengers for “being too close” after they boarded a train late on Monday night.
After a heated argument that turned to threats, the couple was dragged off the metro at the Dum Dum station and flogged by a mob of middle-aged to elderly people.

The boy was kicked, punched and pushed and when the girl tried to save him, she received a few blows as well, the report stated. Later, other passengers from an adjacent compartment alighted to help the couple and save them from the unhinged mob.
Later during the day, locals staged a protest outside the Dum Dum station, demanding the arrest of people who had reportedly beaten up the couple.
The identity of the couple is unknown, and no police complaint has been filed in the case yet.
