The recent turmoil in Darjeeling has witnessed several injuries and few deaths due to clashes between Police and the protesters. While a huge mob is protesting on their demands of Gorkhaland, the West Bengal government has been alleged of using brutal force against the protesters.

The protesters have resorted to hitting back the charging police by torching vehicles and pelting stones to show their agitation. The stone pelting has come back in the picturesque hill station of West Bengal after 30 years. This stone pelting is inspired by videos of people doing the same in Kashmir, according to one of the youths in Darjeeling.
Although GJM (Gorkha Janmukti Morcha) has refused to comment on the recent rise of stone pelting in Darjeeling, A youth says “Stones are the easiest way to attack police, stones are free, easy to throw and hills give the advantage to pelt stones on the police from different directions”.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alleged that GJM nurtures terrorists and the agitated mob is pelting stones and bombs on the police which is unacceptable.
