E3 2017 Preview: Here’s what to expect

Date:

The 2017 edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo is set to kick off on Saturday and will see heavyweights of the video game industry duke it out to garner the most attention. Additionally, the 2017 E3 will be the first time that 15,000 game fans from the public will be allowed to attend the event.

The major announcements will be made in the first three days of the event, starting from June 10. Electronic Arts, or EA, will kick off the proceedings with key announcements of new sequels to their varied franchises. Among the list is the new FIFA 18 and a separate FIFA game for Nintendo’s Switch platform. EA is also expected to reveal the next iteration in the Star Wars Battlefront franchise as well.

Microsoft will take the stage on Sunday. The Redmond-based tech giant is expected to reveal the much hyped Project Scorpio that has been touted to be the most powerful games console in the market. There will also be game announcements from Microsoft’s first-party developers for the Xbox and Windows 10 platforms.

Bethesda will follow Microsoft and it is expected that the esteemed RPG-maker will be bringing two new games to E3 to show off. Bethesda may finally reveal its new IP, Starfield, a sci-fi open-universe RPG.

Monday will see French publisher Ubisoft show off more of their recently announced Far Cry 5, which is set in a fictional anarchic American state. Ubisoft could also announce a new Assassin’s Creed title after deciding to pause development on any new titles in the series after Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate.

Sony also takes the stage on Monday and fans can expect to see more of the games the Japanese electronics giant had teased at last year’s event. Death Stranding, Spider-Man, Days Gone, The Last of Us Part 2 and a rebooted God of War were all teased last year and Sony could announce even more titles for its Playstation platform.

On Tuesday, Nintendo will be the final company to showcase its wares. The Japanese games company is expected to focus on the upcoming Mario Odyssey, announced last year and could also showcase more of the exclusive multiplayer shooter, Splatoon 2.
