Sergio Lobera Rodriguez appointed as new head coach of FC Goa

Date:

Indian Super League (ISL) football franchise FC Goa have confirmed the signing of Sergio Lobera Rodriguez as their new head coach. The Spaniard has been signed on a two-year deal and is set to join the club in the first week of July.

Lobera has previously coached UD Las Palmas, securing sixth position in his first year as head coach as well as Moghreb Tetouan in Morocco. The Spaniard also had a short spell as assistant manager to the late Tito Vilanova during his tenure as the Head Coach of FC Barcelona.

Reflecting on the appointment, FC Goa’s President, Akshay Tandon said that Sergio will help the team achieve its vision for Goan football. The club will continue to display an attacking style of football and will also be looking to promote young talent under the managership of Sergio Lobera.

Sergio termed his appointment as the ideal step in his career and said that he’s “convinced that the club is ideally placed to compete in not just the ISL but across the youth level as well,” after observing the facilities and infrastructure at the club. He also added that he was “keen to play my part in helping the club work towards a unified playing philosophy, which will extend beyond the realms of the club to all the young footballers in Goa who are keen to take up the game.”
