Konkona Sen Sharma‘s directorial debut, A Death in the Gunj opened in cinemas yesterday after its festival dream run that opened with Toronto in September 2016.
Looks like Konkona who picked up two awards a few weeks back a the New York film festival – Best Actress (Lipstick Under my Burkha) and Best Director for Death in the Gunj is on a roll.
There has been a lot of buzz around the movie which had upped the expectation quotient in the public. Starting with the hallowed ensemble casting with stalwarts like Om Puri, Tanuja and Kalki Koechlin leading a band of artists with resumes that need no introduction, the unknown location, autobiographical elements from Konkona’s childhood, the pre-release buzz was hot enough especially for the fans of realistic cinema. But, after its release it seems the critics can’t stop appreciating enough! Most have given the film a whopping 4 stars on 5 and are calling it the year’s best yet!
