Journalist attacked by iron rod in Delhi; second attack on scribes in the capital

Date:

Ezaz Ahmed, a journalist with the Sports deck of UNI was attacked near Connaught Place area in Delhi.

Ahmed told the NewsMobile during a telephonic conversation that he took the 181A number bus from Saray Rohilla that was moving towards Nizamuddin Railway Station via Akashwani. After boarding the bus, Ahmed, who was travelling by his Monthly Bus Pass, noticed that the bus conductor was not handing out the ticket and was collecting all the money for himself. While he protested against the same, the conductor and the bus driver started abusing him. They asked him to be quiet about it as he was travelling by Pass and it doesn’t concern him. He also informed that both the driver and the conductor were reeking of alcohol.

As the bus moved on, the conversation heated up and the conductor announced that as all the passengers excluding Ezaz Ahmed were bound for Nizamuddin Railway Station so the bus will take a shorter route from Barakhamba road or Janpath towards NZM without going to Akashwani, which was the usual route for the bus.

As Ahmed protested against this, he got assaulted by the conductor and the driver. He claims that the driver hit him with an iron rod as the conductor held him back. And as soon as they passed the New Delhi Railway Station towards CP circle he was pushed out of the moving bus near the CP outer circle. Ahmed was lying unconscious for about 15 mins before he revived. Then he walked up to the Super Bazaar and took another bus to Parliament Street Police Station where he informed the police officials about the incident. But the police refused to file his complaint as the incident took place in CP, so he was advised to file the complaint in CP Police Station.

He finally registered his complaint on the morning of 10th April in CP Police Station, and is currently being treated at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

This is the second such case within a week’s time, where a journalist was targeted after Aparna Kalra, a freelance journalist was attacked by an unknown person in a public park in Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area on 5th April.
