Battle For States | Mandate of states: What this means for India

Date:

It has been a spectacular win for the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) after months of intensive campaigning in five poll-bound states- Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Uttarakhand and Manipur.

BJP’s massive victory in Uttar Pradesh with over 300 seats exhibits people’s support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In other words, the results can be regarded as the ‘Mandate of the Modi government‘ in the centre for almost three years.

Ahead of the elections, speculations were there that the Demonetisation move by Narendra Modi in November will go against the BJP in the polls, but setting aside the speculation, the Demonetisation move turned out to be a big hit making BJP’s grand return in Uttar Pradesh politics after 26-years.

In the NewsMobile reality check in Uttar Pradesh during the campaign, we predicted that BJP will form the government in the state with voters preferring the party to tide over the law and order problems in Uttar Pradesh during BSP and Samajwadi Party regime.

What BJP’s mega-victory means for India?

BJP’s win in the Battle For States turns out to be a driving factor in the national politics. With this win, BJP will move towards the majority in the Upper House of the Parliament by 2018 which will let the Modi government pass bills easily and certainly will avoid disrupted sessions in the Parliament.

Moreover, it will be even bigger test of the Modi government in the remaining tenure to make an impact ahead of the Battle For Nation 2019. All eyes will be on Delhi and more and more reforms similar to Demonetisation move will be expected from the government in coming days.

Should other Parties concentrate on 2024 instead of 2019?

The Modi wave across the nation seems to stay for long and if we go by today’s mandate, it is certain that it looks like it will be BJP who will form the government at the centre in 2019.

Well, time will tell who will hold the future of India, but as of now, India has been ‘Modfied’ this Holi season.
