Local CPIM functionary booked following complaint to CM

\ Kochi, Oct 27 (PTI) Two days after Chief Minister\Pinarayi Vijayan made it clear that people involved in\extortion and other crimes would not be protected by his\government, police today booked a functionary of ruling CPIM\here in connection with alleged threatening of a man over a\business deal.\  A case under non-bailable offence has been registered\against CPI(M) Kalamassery Area Secretary Zakir Hussain\following a complaint sent to the Chief Minister by victim\Jube Poulose, police said.\ In his complaint, forwarded to police here, Poulose\alleged he was recently forcibly taken to a place by a\gang-led by one Siddique where Hussain threatened him with\dire consequences over the business deal.\ Siddique, allegedly engaged in criminal activities in the\city for real estate mafia, was arrested by police last week,\following which Poulose chose to file the complaint.\ The registration of the case against Hussain, an\influential local CPI(M) leader, came a day after city police\formed a dedicated \\’anti-goonda\\’ squad named \\’City Task Force\\’\(CTF) to curb increasing criminal activities in the city.\ Vijayan, also holding the Home portfolio, had said in the\state Assembly on October 25 that his government would not\give protection to those people who indulge in criminal\activities such as extortion racket.\ \\"There is a section of people who indulge in extortion\racket,\\" he had said, asserting that the government would not\give protection to those people just because they side with a\particular party.
