14 Maoist supporters surrender in Chhattisgarh

Date:

As many as 14 Maoist supporters today surrendered before authorities along with eight firearms in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, police said.

“They voluntarily reached Dornapal Police Station of the district and expressed their willingness to join the mainstream,” Sukma Superintendent of Police Indira Kalyan Elesela told PTI over phone.

Eight of them surrendered along with eight muzzle-loading guns, he added.

They all are natives of Upanpalli village under Polampalli Police Station area – a Maoist hotbed in South Bastar.

“There are no warrants against these people. They themselves told police they were providing logistics and other support to Maoists,” the SP said, describing the move as a good sign in the Naxal stronghold.

After turning themselves in, these villagers took a pledge not to provide support to Maoists in future and help the administration in carrying out development projects in the area, Elesela added.
