Bengal has achieved highest IMR decline in the country: Mamata

Kolkata, Sep 20 (PTI) With the Infant Mortality Rate (IMR)in the state falling to 28 in 2014 from 32 in 2011, WestBengal has achieved the highest decline in the country in thisregard, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said today. "(West) Bengal has achieved the highest decline in thecountry in IMR as a big state and has been appreciated withTrophy and Certificate of Merit in the National Summit on BestPractices and Innovations in Public Healthcare Systems inIndia," Banerjee wrote on her Facebook wall. The summit was organised by the Union Ministry of Healthand Family Welfare at Tirupati during August 29-31. "The IMR in Bengal, which was 32 in 2011, has declined to28 in 2014, as per the recent SRS data published in July,2016," the post read. "The corresponding figures of IMR of the country as awhole are 44 in 2011 and 39 in 2014. Thus, Bengal is far aheadof the country as a whole in terms of this critical healthparameter," she said. Describing it as a "social revolution in child care sectorunder the state’s health system", Banerjee congratulatedhealth workers as well as doctors for the feat. "This achievement is due to hard work and dedication ofdoctors, officials and workers of our health sector. We arecommitted to do much more work for the society.
