Police constable attacked in Thane; one arrested

Thane, Sep 12 (PTI) A youth from powerloom town ofBhiwandi here was arrested for allegedly attacking apolice constable on duty and injuring him during Lord Ganeshaidol immersion procession, police said today. The incident occurred yesterday after two policemenwho were controlling the crowd intervened when two groups ofrevellers came to blows at Kamathghar locality. About half a dozen of them tried to manhandle the twoconstables who made an unsuccessful attempt to pacify them. Constable Dilwar J Wasave (30) was badly injured afterrevellers beat him up following which he was rushed to ahospital, police said. Immediately police arrested the accused identified asAvinash Suresh Patil, 23 and search is on for others. The accused have been booked under section 353 of theIPC and police is carrying out further probe into thecase, police added. PTI COR DKRTRYS
