Agri-tech firm Crofarm ties up with 2k farmers in Maha, K’taka

Mumbai, Aug 29 (PTI) Agriculture technology startupCrofarm has tied up with over 2,200 farmers across Maharashtraand Karnataka to help them receive better value for theirproduce, and improve their quality of work and life. With the new relationship, it takes its total tally ofpartner farmers to 14,000, the company said in a statementtoday. Crofarm’s core focus is to offer better value tofarmers, reduce wastage, help them drive sales and to ensurethat businesses get the best deals. Providing farmers with the facility to directlynegotiate with the market will help them circumventunorganised money-lending and the bureaucratic loops ofAgriculture Produce Market Committees, Crofarm said. "The idea behind joining hands with more and morefarmers is to help them receive a better value for theirproduce and to assist them in enhancing their quality of lifeand work," it said. Incepted in May 2016, Crofarm has associated with1,200 farmers from Mumbai and 1,000 farmers from Bengaluru. "Farmers are the fulcrum of the agriculture sector andit is very important to work directly with them. Betterlifestyles, prices that match their hard work and theconveyance of the best produce to consumersÂ’ neighbouringstores – these are just a few of the benefits thispartnership generates," Varun Khurana, co-founder, CEO andspokesperson Crofarm, said. Crofarm focuses on streamlining the functioning of theunorganised agriculture segment in order to generate bettertrade relations between farmers, businesses and consumers. The agri-tech company is committed to increasing itscustomer base in the organised retail segment of the country,it added. It is already working on supplying high-qualityproduce to retailers across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. It has offices in Mumbai and Bengaluru and will alsobe opening regional offices to broaden its base in keygeographies such as Hyderabad, Odisha and Jaipur, amongothers, it said. As per the release, it has expanded its portfolio ofproducts and apart from routine needs of potatoes, greenvegetables, onions and tomatoes, the brand is also planning tooffer exotic vegetables such broccoli, iceberg lettuce and redand yellow bell peppers.
