Medical student ‘depressed’ over father’s death ends life

Puducherry, Aug 27 (PTI) A 25-year medical student fromKarnataka, stated to have been depressed following the deathof his father recently, allegedly committed suicide in hishostel room at Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medicaland Education and Research (JIPMER) here, police said. Sumanth, who had joined the PG course in Radiotherapy atthe prestigious institute only a month ago, ended his lifeyesterday by injecting himself a poisonous drug, they said. JIPMER Director S C Parija told PTI that the door of theroom was found bolted from inside and they broke it open withthe help of police. Sumanth’s father had died recently following which he wassuffering from depression and had taken treatment for it inBengaluru, police said.
