DU teachers demand focus on physical education

New Delhi, Aug 26 (PTI) Alleging that lack of sportsfacilities in universities responsible for the poorperformance of the country in global events like Olympics,Delhi University teachers are demanding that the varsityshould improve the infrastructure and focus on physicaleducation. "The spectacular performance of a few at Olympics can becredited to individual’s initiative rather than system andsocietal support. To cater to about 1.8 lakh students, DU hasless than 100 qualified Physical Education teachers in over 75colleges," DUTA President Nandita Narain said. "The university does not considers Physical Education asan academic subject during admissions and this proves thatthere is no seamless integration between schools andcolleges," she added. Delhi University Teachers’ Association demanded that theuniversity chalks out a sports policy for the university sothe students can be provided with an action plan andinfrastructure to pursue their career in sports besidesacademics.
