Depression over Bay of Bengal, very heavy rainfall likely

Bhubaneswar, Aug 17 (PTI) With the well marked lowpressure concentrating into a depression over Bay of Bengal,IMD today warned of very heavy rainfall coupled with gustysurface wind and rough sea in some areas of Odisha during thenext 24 hours. Yesterday’s well marked low pressure area over northwestBay of Bengal concentrated into a depression over north Bay ofBengal about 220 km east-southeast of Balasore. The system islikely to move northwestwards initially, the metereologicalcentre here said. Under its impact, rain or thundershower is likely tooccur at most places over Odisha during next 24 hours. Heavyto very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two placesover north Odisha and heavy rainfall at one or two places oversouth Odisha during next 24 hours, it said. In view of the weather condition, local cautionarysignal No. 3 (LC-III) is hoisted at all ports in Odisha. Strong gusty surface wind from northwesterly directionwith speed reaching 45 to 55 kmph and gusting up to 65 kmphmay prevail along and off Odisha coast, the MeT office said. Sea condition would be rough to very rough in Odishacoast. Sea wave height may increase upto 3 to 4 meters, itsaid advising fshermen not to venture into sea in OdishaCoast. PTI SKN MMDV
