Cong may move SC over private bill seeking spl status for AP

Hyderabad, Aug 17 (PTI) Congress is consideringapproaching the Supreme Court on the issue of the private billmoved by its Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao seekingspecial category status for Andhra Pradesh, senior partyleader Digvijaya Singh said here today. Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha P J Kurien had earlierthis month referred the issue of whether the Andhra PradeshReorganisation (Amendment)) Bill was a money bill or not toLok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan. "We are examining the possibility of going to the SupremeCourt. Because there is already a case pending in the SupremeCourt," Digvijaya told PTI, without elaborating. He was speaking on the sidelines of a presentationorganised by Telangana Congress on irrigation projects in thestate. Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao had moved thebill citing the assurance given by then Prime MinisterManmohan Singh that Andhra Pradesh would get special categorystatus for five years after the bifurcation, and also the pollpromises of BJP. But it could not be put to vote in the Rajya Sabha as thetreasury benches said it was a money bill, on which the UpperHouse can not have any say. Meanwhile, Telangana Congress alleged today that the TRSgovernment was indulging in corruption by redesigning someimportant irrigation projects.
