Police feel no one takes care of their needs: Goa CM

Panaji, Aug 16 (PTI) Many a time, police outburstagainst people is because of their frustration due toinadequate facilities provided to them on duty, Goa ChiefMinister Laxmikant Parsekar today said. "It is said that police burst out their anger towardspeople because they don’t get proper facilities. They feelthat there is no one to take care of their needs on duty.They don’t have proper barracks (to live)," he said afterinaugurating the building of Mapusa police station, around 10km away from here. He said taking into consideration the requirement ofpolice officials on duty, the building has been built which is"far better than the state headquarter building in Panaji." "This (police station) is not even a districtheadquarters. But the building is far better than the StateHeadquarters in Panaji," Parsekar said. "I fear that Director General of Police might requestme to shift the HQ in Mapusa in this building," he quipped. Parsekar said the new building is people-friend andpolice-friendly structure which will help better policing inthe area. Stating that this is the third refurbished policestation building that he has been inaugurating after one eachat Bicholim and Pernem (both in North Goa), Parsekar claimedthat his government is on development spree. "We lost almost Rs 5,000 crore in last more than fouryears due to closure of mining industry. But that did notdeter us from taking up the developmental works. We have takenfast paced developmental works," he said quoting constructionof third bridge across Mandovi River here. PTI RPS NRB ZMNBAS
