Govt now mulls simultaneous polls for civic bodies, ZP: Danve

Mumbai, Aug 16 (PTI) BJP Maharashtra presidentRaosaheb Danve said here today that the government iscontemplating to hold simultaneous polls to local bodies -civic bodies and Zill Parishad (ZPs) and Bill to this effectwill be brought in the Parliament after talks with otherparties. "A Bill to this effect will be brought in theParliament with all-party consultation. We hope that theOpposition will give their consent to it," he told reportersduring an informal talk with them here today. "Apart from breaking the unending sequence ofelections, the move will also expedite development works,which are held up due to election code of conduct. It willalso give ample time to top politicians to concentrate onthese works, as they are involved in campaigning timeand again," he added. In case a government collapses and mid-term polls areheld, it has been proposed that it would serve only theremaining term after getting elected, he said. "If a State Government collapses after two years andelections are held, then the tenure of new government willonly be for three years so that it matches the alignment ofnext elections," Danve said.
