Punjab govt owes explanation on Rs 600 crore loan: Amarinder

Amritsar, Aug 11 (PTI) Punjab Congress chief AmarinderSingh today asked the state government to explain whathappened to Rs 600 crore loan it had taken from the Bank ofJapan for laying out drainage system in Amritsar. Reacting to the flooding here due to heavy rain today, theAmritsar MP said the state government owed an explanation tothe people of Amritsar as what did it do with that money whichhas to be paid back to the bank. The Punjab Congress Committee President said, had themoney, taken as loan, been utilised properly, Amritsar wouldnot have faced the problem of flooding and waterlogging likeit faced today. Amarinder pointed out that if this can happen to the holycity of Amritsar, which is visited everyday by thousands ofpeople from across the world, one can well imagine the plightof other places in the state.
