Iranian nuclear scientist executed on spying charges

Date:

The government of Iran has executed a nuclear scientist arrested in 2010 when he came back home from the United States, who was convicted by an Iranian court for providing the vital information to US intelligence agencies.

Shahram Amiri was a nuclear scientist, working with Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization. He went missing in 2009, when he went to Saudi Arabia for pilgrimage and later emerged in the US. But he came back to Iran in 2010 and received warm heroic welcome before being arrested. It was believed that he had relations with the U.S. intelligence.

As reported by IRNA, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, spokesperson of judiciary said “through his connection with the United States, (Shahram) Amiri gave vital information about the country to the enemy”. In 2010, a US official said that US intelligence agencies had received “useful information” from Amiri.
