US-Russia Cold war over Crimea

Date:

The United States of America and Russia verbally confronted each other over the issue of deployment of weapons and force in Crimea. Russia rejected the United States’ criticism over the deployment of weapons in Crimea by saying the Russian federation is completely free to protect its national security by deploying forces wherever it required, on its territory.

The head of the Foreign Ministry’s Department for Security and Disarmament, Mikhail Ulyanov was quoted by RIA Novosti on Friday, saying “Russia has the right to base the movement of military forces and weapons on its territory on its own independent decisions”. It is important to know that last year in June, the foreign ministry of Russia issued a statement in which it said that Russia retains the right to deploy nuclear arms anywhere on its territory, Including Crimea.

The statement was an attempt to counter the allegations made by pro-US Ukrainian politicians, in which they said that the deployment of Russian warheads in Crimea would be a breach of NPT.
