‘Pinga’ fails to recreate the ‘Dola Re Dola’ magic

Date:

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is known for his cinematographic excellence. Lavish and larger than life sets, huge backdrops, creative props and gorgeous look of the leading ladies- all these add up to the visual treat of the audience watching a Bhansali film. Whether it is Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas or the upcoming Bajirao Mastani, audience always expects a larger than life screen delight.

The dramatic promo, ‘fierce’ poster of Ranveer Singh and Deepika’s ‘fragile yet intense’ still from the movie has raised the expectations to a higher level. But did you think of a Deepika-Priyanka dance face-off too? Well, if you did not, now is the time to consider it a reality. The Bajirao Mastani makers have released a song called ‘Pinga’ featuring fabulous Deepika and mesmerizing Peecee.

And guess what, when you see the song, you will most likely be reminded of the classic ‘Dola Re Dola’ from Devdas. But has Pinga managed to recreate the magic of the epic Dola Re Dola? Unfortunately the answer is no. Here is why:

Pinga lacks vibrant colours

One of the reasons why Dola Re Dola was a smashing hit is because of the colour scheme that was used in the song sequence. The massive set with the beautiful red and white colour coding successfully caught everyone’s eye and Aishwarya and Madhuri’s red and white saree added the extra touch of glamour to the song whereas the colours used in Pinga are comparatively dull and lacks vibrancy throughout the song.

The ‘Dola Re’ trio is missing

Aishwarya and Madhuri are stalwarts when it comes to dancing and Saroj Khan is the perhaps the best when it comes to choreography of Indian dance forms. This time Deepika- Peecee-Remo D’Souza trio seem to have failed to match up to the prior trio of Dola Re. Sorry Remo, but I guess the janta will not be able to say ‘Now that’s what I call a performance’.

Not an immaculate signature step

Who can forget the impeccable signature step of Dola Re? Both the leading beauties donned the signature step in a way that can force any girl to just get up and start dancing. If you talk about expressions, it is quite impossible to match Dhak Dhak girl’s expression especially at Indian classical. The choreography in Pinga involves Lavni with a peculiar style of hand movements as the signature step but the Deepika-Priyanka jugalbandi fizzles out to make the viewer relive the charismatic Dola Re performance.
