Bali airport could open for a brief window

Date:

The latest reports coming in from Bali tell us that the Ngurah Rai International Airport might open for a short window at 3 pm local time. As per sources, Air India One carrying the Indian Veep’s delegation might be able to return to India.

The Indian Vice President Hamid Ansari and his delegation have been stuck in Bali since Wednesday as the airport had to be completely shut down owing to the haze following the volcanic eruption.

The bilateral visit to Brunei had to be called off and Ansari was scheduled to host the Chinese Vice President on Friday, which is also in jeopardy.

Also stuck in Bali is the fugitive Chhota Rajan who is to be deported to India and stays holed up in a prison in Bali with no flights out of the island.

Sources say that if the situation remains like this an Indian navy ship may have to rescue the Indian delegation stuck here in Bali.

Meanwhile with over 700 flight cancellations, the Bali beach party has been spoiled for thousands of tourists especially in a wedding season when many weddings take place.

Thanks to the volcanic eruption, the Ngurah Rai International Airport has been temporarily shut down following haze and all flights have been grounded, officials said.  While Rajan was scheduled to leave on Thursday, when the airport was expected to reopen, that will further get delayed.

As per ground reports, the airport is likely to be shut for another day as it may not open on Friday also.
