Chennai: Chennai police on Friday detained a Tamil folk artist for allegedly criticising the AIADMK government.
Kovan, a member of ‘Makkal Kalai Ilakiya Kazhagam’ MKIK- a performance group based in Trichy – was held by the Chennai police at 2am on Friday.
He had recently released a song claiming the whole of Tamil Nadu is under the influence of alcohol and that “Poes” where Chief Minister Jayalalithaa resides – is rejoicing.
Kovan has been booked under various IPC sections including 124A (sedition), police said. Besides sedition charge, police said they had registered cases against him under IPC sections including 153(A) (promoting enmity between different groups) and 502 (sale of printed or engraved substance containing defamatory matter).
Kovan also sings about the increasing price of food and education.
