#UberRapeVerdict: Driver Shiv Kumar Yadav convicted

Date:

New Delhi: A Delhi court has declared Uber rape cab case accused Shiv Kumar Yadav guilty for raping a 25-year-old woman executive in his taxi last year in Delhi. The court is likely to pronounce the quantum of punishment on October 23.

The Delhi Tis Hazari court pronounced the verdict on Tuesday morning.

Speaking to the media, Shiv Kumar’s lawyer Dharmender Kumar Mishra said, “Court has convicted Kumar Yadav for all charges.”

In January, the Delhi court had framed charges against Yadav under sections 366 and 323 of the Indian Penal Code for offences of endangering a woman’s life while raping her, kidnapping with an intent to compel her for marriage, criminally intimidating and causing hurt.

The trial in the case had begun before Additional Sessions Judge Kaveri Baweja on January 15 with the court recording statement of the victim as a prosecution witness.

Last month, the victim had challenged a Delhi High Court ruling against the recall of witnesses in the case. Delhi Police has sought the dismissal of the High Court order on grounds that it would further cause harassment to the victim.

The incident took place on the night of December 5 last year when the victim, a finance executive working in Gurgaon, was heading back to her house at Inderlok.

Shiv Kumar Yadav was arrested on December 7, 2014 from Mathura.
