Two arrested for killing mother in Tripura

Date:

Agartala: Police arrested two sons of a middle-aged lady, who was murdered about one and half months ago in high security zone of the city, following instructions of CID.

Police said CID officials after detailed investigation ascertained that both the sons Dipjoy Saha and Bitanjoy Saha were involved in the murder.

They had allegedly hired professional killers for killing 53-year-old Shanta Saha, a homemaker, police said. She was murdered in the government quarter close to the residences of home secretary, chief secretary, DGP and other top bosses of police and Chief Justice, on August 17 in broad daylight, police added.

She was alone in the house when the incident happened. Shanta made a phone call to her elder son suspecting someone barging into the house. However, the call went unattended and she was then murdered at her residence.

Later, her elder son Dipjoy (30) sent his younger brother to the house referring the missed call. Initially, the wife of the elder son and her family were accused of the crime.

Police said during investigation they came to know about Dipjoy’s extra-marital affair with his cousin, a lawyer, which was objected by his mother and wife, adding that they felt it could be the reason behind the murder. The wife was also allegedly tortured by Dipjoy for objecting the relation.

A day before the murder, Shanta restricted the entry of her niece in the house with whom her elder son maintained an extra-marital relation, police claimed and added that the behavior of both the sons after the murder of their mother was casual.

The officials of CID and police had jointly been interrogating them separately in two police stations. Police will seek their custody from the court.
