Woman killed by in-laws for dowry

Date:

A woman was found dead in the city in what is being suspected to be a case of murder for want of dowry, police said on Tuesday.

According to a complaint filed by Narendra Tiwari, a resident of village Sehatpur Faridabad, his daughter Nidhi Tiwari got married to Anand Tiwari, a resident of Lakadpur in Faridabad, on February 23, 2012.

His daughter had been complaining that she was being harassed by her in-laws for want of dowry.

The complainant said that he had earlier given a motorcycle to his daughter upon her in-laws’ demand.

The woman’s mother-in-law Swabhavti and brother-in-law beat her up every now and then for want of more dowry, the woman’s father alleged.

On September 25, the complainant received a call from Nidhi’s in-laws saying that she was not well and they were taking her to Batra Hospital in Delhi.

Upon reaching the hospital, Narendra was told that his daughter had hanged herself and breathed her last during treatment.

The woman’s family has accused her father-in-law Ramaji Lal, mother-in-law Swabhavati and younger brother-in-law for the ‘killing’.

A complaint was filed at the Surajkund police station on Monday.

Police have started investigations in the case, said investigating officer ASI Hari Kishan.
