Floating 1000 rupee notes?

Mumbai: Imagine you suddenly notice 1000 rupee notes floating in a water body. Yes, it is quite strange and a very rare thing to happen. But, on Tuesday Mumbaikars experienced something like a tale.

A buzz was raised at Mumbai’s Gateway of India on Tuesday afternoon, when notes of Rs 1,000 were noticed floating in the water and several people made efforts to grab them.

According to reports a Colaba resident Harichandra Somar rushed to the spot after hearing the buzz and saw several notes close to the sea wall. He climbed down and picked up two Rs 1,000 notes and rushed back to home and handed them to his family. then made two more rounds and collected three more Rs 1,000 notes.

Where did the notes come from?

According to a passer-by, a foreigner threw them in the water. “I heard someone say that a foreigner threw a bundle of notes into the water and dared passersby to help themselves. When I reached the spot, I saw that several people had climbed into the water and I too did so, but unlike some others I got only one note.”

A Colaba police officer said, “We detained three people who said they collected Rs 1,000 each from the water. We released them after recording their statements.”
