Oh, something’s fishy!

Date:

Hyderabad: Monsoons are one of the most anticipated times of the year, especially for farmers. The better the monsoon, the richer the crops. But then, what do you do when it rains fish? No, no, it isn’t a hypothetical situation that I’m throwing on your face. It IS raining fish in Andhra Pradesh and you’ve got to see it to believe it.

It was reported that fish sized between 4 and 6 inches were pouring down from the heavens, making it a day of feast for fish lovers in Gollamudi and Pallagiri, two villages in the Krishna district.

Why is this happening?

There are many people who refuse to believe that it can rain fish. Marine Biology Duggaraju Srinivas, an Environmentalist and retired professor rules it out, saying, “Fish does not fall from the sky. It is only displacement caused due to rain mixed with gales or tornados.”

However, there is a theory that explains this mysterious generosity of nature. One explanation for this is water spouts or sea tornadoes that pick up marine life from the ocean and release them with rain.

Has it happened before?

Yes, it has. In fact, it has rained not just fish, it’s rained frogs, snails and even spiders. Yikes!

It has rained fish since times immemorial.
