Audi driver lands in 14-days custody

Mumbai: After four days of Audi accident, Reliance Industries corporate lawyer has been sent to 14-days judicial custody.

Janhavi Gadkar has been sent to jail till June26 for killing two, as her Audi Q3 rammed into an into a taxi late on Monday. Earlier, forensic report revealed her blood had six times the permissible limit of alcohol. Yes, six times.

According to reports, Gadkar had around 200mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood, which is way over the permissible limit of 30mg per 100 ml. “This will effectively strengthen our case against her,” said a senior police officer, requesting anonymity.

The corporate lawyer drove after an evening of heavy drinking with friends in South Mumbai on Monday and was headed to her Chembur home when she got on to the wrong side of the road on the Eastern Freeway and crashed into the taxi driven by Mohammed Sayyed, 57, who died on the spot. The freeway connects the eastern suburbs of Greater Mumbai to South Mumbai.

Sayyed was ferrying the five-member Sabuwala family returning home from Bhiwandi. Businessman Salim Sabuwala, 50, was taken to Sion Hospital where he succumbed to injuries. His wife Hafeeza, daughters Sadiya and Salma, and son Noman suffered injuries. They had gone to a Bhiwandi hotel to celebrate Noman’s SSC results announced on Monday.

The impact of the crash was such that the front portion of the taxi was crushed.

“We want justice and the strictest punishment for her. Her passport should be seized so that she does not flee the country,” said Noman. Sayyed’s daughter Nilofar Shafi Syed, 30, said that the crash was no accident but murder.
