Identified: UFO hoax in Mumbai busted

Date:

Mumbai: The parachute like flying objects, which were observed above Mumbai airport, had created a security scare on Monday.

The flying objects have now emerged as promotional balloons by a diamond company and have lead to arrest of two for security reasons.

A Jet Airways pilot was forced to abort take-off on Saturday evening as airport officials wondered whether the objects were remote-controlled “parachutes”. The plane was to fly to Ahmedabad when the pilot told the Air Traffic Control that he had seen some “orange-yellow luminous flying objects.”

The Mumbai police said the company had organised a cricket match for its employees and had launched the balloons.

The organisers will be booked for negligence, police said.

The Mumbai police along with intelligence agencies investigated what happened.

The possibility that these were Chinese lanterns was also considered.

The Mumbai runway is close to Juhu beach where such lanterns are sold over the weekends.
