Former journalist electrocuted while charging laptop

Date:

Monday morning brought more than the day’s news. It brought word of the death of a journalist as well.

Sunil B S, 31, died after suffering a cardiac arrest when he accidentally touched the metal on the charging pin as he plugged it into the socket. As soon as he reached the hospital, the Vashi resident was declared dead on arrival.

The incident occurred around 10:30 am. According to a friend who was with him at the time, Sunil had returned from his routine morning jog and was panting heavily. He sipped his lemonade and simultaneously tried plugging in the laptop charger. His fingers accidentally came in contact with the metal part of the charger pin and got stuck to it.

“I immediately turned off the main power switch and pulled away Sunil’s hand using plastic slippers. I called an ambulance, which arrived after 15 minutes. Meanwhile, I tried pressing his chest. But according to the doctor who came with an ambulance, Sunil had a feeble pulse,” she said.

Sunil BS, who hailed from Bengaluru, held a BTech in Industrial Engineering from National Institute of Technology in Jalandhar. He had worked with financial daily Mint until he left the paper in 2011. He also consulted Indian Institute of Management in his hometown in designing curriculum and other matters. He had also worked for Dow Chemicals. Sunil had joined PR agency Ketchum Sampark around a month ago.

Friends and colleagues describe him as a friendly and jovial person. “He would always crack jokes at the workplace,” remembers Gayatri Jayaraman, a former colleague.

Sunil was known as a ‘fitness freak’. “He would run for three hours every morning. After putting on some weight, he started running and quickly lost weight,” said the friend who called the ambulance.

The body was airlifted to Bengaluru and the funeral was done around 5 pm.
