Decoding DU Admissions

Date:

Now that the Board results are out, many of you must be a little skeptical of taking the plunge. Plunge? Yes, the transition from being kids to college goers. Before you imagine college life to be like the ones shown in films, with colourful attires and bubble blowing kids doing whatever they feel like, let me stop you.

College is fun, but if you don’t get your act together, you might not be able to enjoy it the way you should. However, even before you get to that stage, you should know where you want to go.

Did I hear you whisper Delhi University? I think I did. So, yes, if you have zeroed in on one of the most prestigious universities in the country, you better do your homework so that the transition is smooth and problem free. So, what exactly do you need to know?

DU in a nutshell

DU came into being in the year 1922, DU has two campuses — North Campus and the South Campus. There are about 84 colleges affiliated to this University, but if you believe that more colleges will mean that the admission process will be easier, you’re wrong. DU has extremely high standards and cut offs so you have to be intelligent and lucky to make the cut. It’s been consistently ranked as the No 1 university in India for years together.

The Creme-de-la-Creme

While getting into DU itself should make your chest swell with pride, if you really want to experience the best of it, these are some of the most popular colleges: Shri Ram College of Commerce, Indraprastha College for Women, Hindu College, SGTB Khalsa College, Miranda House, Daulat Ram College, Hansraj College, St. Stephen’s College, Kirori Mal College, and Ramjas College. The extended off campus has Janki Devi Memorial College in Old Rajendra Nagar. This is when it comes to North Campus.

The South Campus has equally great colleges that include .Delhi College of Arts and Commerce ,Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, college of vocational studies, Sri Aurobindo College, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, Kamla Nehru College, Maitreyi College, Sri Venkateswara College, Ram Lal Anand College, Lady Shri Ram College, Lady Irwin College, Jesus and Mary College, Motilal Nehru College, Maharaja Agrasen College, Dyal Singh College, Ramanujan College, Gargi College, Acharya Narendra Dev College and Deshbandhu College.

Cut-Offs

I remember when I had moved to Delhi to do my Postgraduate Diploma from Times School of Journalism, the cut-offs had just been released and some of them were at 100%. Yes. A friend of mine had got 97 and he didn’t make it.

I’m pretty sure with the cut-offs beginning to trickle in, you must be nervous as well. Worry not. Just to understand where you stand, click this link and get a fair idea.
