Reformer-in-chief indeed!

Date:

When American President Obama landed in India, little did he know that he would be swept off his feet. Narendra Modi and his hospitality impressed Obama so much, that soon he was quoted calling him India’s ‘reformer-in-chief’. Narendra Modi has now become a household name, in the real sense of the term.

Cutting away from all the political mileage that Modi has gained in the very first year of his term, it’s the respect of the youth that comes as a new experience. In India, politics is a dirty game and politicians are treated like cheaters. More of often than not, there are memes and jokes about them floating all over social networking sites.

However, no one does that to Modi, considering the huge impact that he has had on the citizens, especially the youth. Today, there are video clips of him addressing gatherings being shared under such updates as “Proud to be an Indian”.

To add to that, there’s his humane side that he puts on display at times. From getting emotional (not the boo hoo hoo version) when LK Advani said he had done a favour by joining the party, to mingling with little kids at events, Modi has shown the public that he too is just like us.

Does he have a not-so-great past? Yes, he does. Is he bringing about a change in the country? He’s trying. Does he deserve respect? A big yes.

Political accomplishments apart, Modi has managed to fine tune our impression of the political class. Perhaps we should raise a toast.
