Hyderabad: In India, one common thing to be heard after any disaster or tragedy is, “The Government doesn’t care. It’s only interested in the taxes. Roads are full of potholes, we have to bribe to get things done and there’s no protection for us from anything. This country is going to the dogs,†is safely and conveniently declared. The cribbing goes on.
I have grown up in a society that’s always had a bone to pick with the Government. From leaking taps to growing population, the Government was always considered as a villain, never interested in the interests of the people. Seldom did we trust it, and from its part, it seldom gave us an opportunity to. Prices spiked sharply, leaving our living conditions in dire conditions, unable to make both ends meet. And who was responsible? According to every citizen — the Government.
Up until now, that is.
As soon as Narendra Modi took over, a positive vibe took over. People began to look up to the Government, sharing their problems and expecting solutions, unlike the past, where the communication channels were clogged. Modi became a phenomenon, a cult. The wave was felt by everyone, from the layman to even the US President Barack Obama.
The recent crisis in Yemen and India’s Operation Rahat need no introduction. This was what brought India into the limelight and good limelight at that. With India’s operations snatching what belonged to us, other countries looked at us for help. And we obliged, making us everyone’s favourite. After all, a friend in need, is a friend indeed, isn’t it?
To add to the efficiency and clinicality displayed by the Indian authorities that took everyone by surprise, the timely actions were also updated for the common man to see and understand. This Government runs on technology and that’s what assists it in connecting it with the people who brought it to power. A string of tweets from Sushma Swaraj, for instance, interacting with a  lady from Yemen, who was worried about herself and the safety of her child. With timely action taken and the whole thing available on twitter for the aam aadmi to follow, Sushma Swaraj became an instant hero.
Very rarely do we come across someone who shows faith in the Government of India. However, the latest ravage that nature plotted in Nepal, the Indian Government leapt into action straightaway, with relief material, rescue team and other assistance dispatched to Nepal without wasting anytime, none at all. This speaks volumes — about intention and about the ability to execute things on such a large scale.
I came across a post on Facebook, about someone looking to find their friend in Nepal and someone commented, ‘tweet to Sushma Swaraj, she will definitely help you.’  I smiled. We are in good hands.
