Englands Farrell pens long-term Saracens deal

Date:

England fly-half Owen Farrell has signed a “long-term contract extension” with Saracens, the English Premiership club announced on Tuesday.

Farrell, 23, has been at Saracens since the age of 14 and has made 109 appearances for the club.

“I’ve loved every minute that I’ve had at Saracens, and how we’ve been going over the last few years — hopefully we can continue to get better and better,” Farrell said in a press release.

“I owe a lot to this club, in terms of how I’ve improved as a player and how I’ve done in my career. Hopefully I’ve given as much to the club in return.

“I’m delighted that I’ll be been able to extend my deal here and I’m really looking forward to rip into the rest of the season and the years ahead.”

Farrell has won 29 England caps and made a substitute appearance during the British and Irish Lions’ triumphant tour of Australia in 2013.

He made his return following a knee injury in Saracens’ 13-9 loss away to Clermont in Saturday’s European Champions Cup semi-final.

The injury forced him to miss the whole of the Six Nations, but he is expected to be a central figure for England at the World Cup later this year.

“Owen is one of the leading players in Europe, if not the world, so for him to commit his long-term future to the club is fantastic news,” said Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall.

“He is another player who has progressed through the ranks at Saracens to become a key player for club and country.

“He is a Saracen through and through, and his hunger and drive to keep on improving is exceptional. The whole club is looking forward to seeing him at Allianz Park over the coming years.”

Saracens did not disclose the exact length of Farrell’s new contract.
