Dhaka: As part of ongoing bilateral naval exchanges between India and Bangladesh, three ships of the First Training Squadron, Indian Navy- INS Tir, INS Kesari and ICGS Varuna- are scheduled to visit Bangladesh from 19 to 22 March 2015 on a goodwill visit.
INS Tir is designated as a Senior Ship of the First Training Squadron of the Indian Navy based in Kochi.
INS Kesari is an indigenously designed Landing Ship Tank and was commissioned in 2008. Kesari is the Sanskrit word for lion and is associated with valour and heroism.
ICGS Varuna is an Offshore Patrol Vessel named after Lord Varuna, the sea deity of all mariners, was commissioned in 1988 and is the Alma Mater of the Indian Coast Guard and Naval Officers. Â
The ships are on a training tour to the region covering Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka besides Bangladesh. Â Â Â Â Â Â
During the visit, officers, cadets and sailors of India and Bangladesh will get an opportunity to interact with each other and benefit from the best practices being followed by both navies in the field of training. The visit will further strengthen the friendship that has historically existed between the two navies.
