Tenure of ED Director extended by 3 months

Date:

Government Saturday extended by three months the tenure of senior IAS officer Rajan S Katoch as the Director of Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Katoch is handling the charge of the chief of ED in an additional capacity as he is also the Secretary of the Heavy Industries Ministry.

A 1979-batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, Katoch has been heading Enforcement Directorate under the Finance Ministry for over two years.

An order of the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) said his tenure has been extended for three months beyond January 31.

The officer, who was appointed as ED chief in March 2012, has been credited with bringing in some of the best practices in the enforcement wing of the Finance Ministry which deals with cases under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). A post-graduate in economics, Katoch has served in the Ministry of Commerce, besides holding a number of posts in his parent cadre.
