693 candidates in fray for Delhi polls

New Delhi: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, responsible for the conduct of the February 7 assembly polls in the national capital approved the nomination papers of 693 candidates and rejected the nominations of 230 after scrutiny.

After scrutiny, the highest number of valid nominations was 18 from the Burari Assembly seat and the lowest was four in the Ambedkar Nagar constituency.

In all, 923 candidates from BJP, Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, BSP, NCP, Left Parties and Independents had filed their nomination papers.

The candidates can withdraw their nomination by Saturday.

Counting of votes will be held on February 10.

A total of 121 first information reports were lodged against various political parties in connection with the violation of the Model Code of Conduct in Delhi till now.

According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, 54 FIR’s were lodged against AAP, 24 against BJP, 26 against Congress and 10 against BSP.

So far, 1600 hoardings have been removed from public property and 116 FIR’s have been lodged in this regard.
