Wellington: The chief executive of Netflix, Reed Hastings, said broadcast television would “probably end by 2030”. Hastings compared the television business to an ageing horse saying that the “horse was good until we had the car”.
Netflix and other streaming services in the US like Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus have been blamed from reduction in traditional television viewing and declining cable subscription rates.
Hastings said internet TV would eventually replace the linear TV. Cable-cutting is a major problem in the US as free-to-air television is often delivered to homes using the same cable as pay television.
