Infosys fires top executives cites violation of company policy

Date:

Bangalore: According to sources, two top Infosys executives were shown the door Thursday after reports emerged of alleged back-office deals like overcharging electronic giant Apple Inc.

Infosys, India’s second largest outsourcing giant issued a statement clarifying that it had fired Abraham Mathews, the chief financial officer at its BPO unit for his failure to comply with the company’s model code of conduct.

The statement further clarified that BPO Chief Executive Officer Gautam Thakkar had resigned on ‘moral grounds’ and he would relinquish his post on November 30

Post the statement issued, Infosys spokespersons refused to comment on the issue citing pending internal investigations.

Apple too has remained silent on the issue and has not responded to any queries with regard to the matter.

Sources inside Infosys indicated that the alleged irregularities in Infosys BPO’s dealings with Apple came out during an internal audit.

The source said: “Though the audit showed that the financial impact of the wrongdoing on the company was minimal, Infosys decided to take a tough stance to demonstrate its ‘zero-tolerance policy for any improper conduct,’ he said.

A  leading English daily had said Thursday that Infosys would soon fire at least six more employees at the unit, after investigations revealed that they had produced inflated invoices and allegedly overbilled Apple for many months.

Infosys, earlier this year, brought in Vishal Sikka as its new CEO to chart a new strategy for the company, which has seen a decline in both human resource and market share in recently though it was once an example of leadership in the $100 billion Information and Technology outsourcing industry.
