Maharashtra Haryana go to polls on Oct 15

Date:

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Friday announced the dates of assembly elections to be held in the states of Maharsahtra and Haryana. Both the states would go to polls on October 15 and the counting of votes would be held on October 19.

The Assembly elections will be held in two phases – Maharashtra and Haryana in the first phase and Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand in the second phase.

The EC will decide the schedule for Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir later.

The tenure of the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly comes to an end on November 8, while that of the 90-member Haryana House will end on October 27.

While Congress is ruling Haryana, the Congress-NCP alliance is ruling Maharashtra.

Earlier, there were speculations that all four states will have elections together. The upcoming Assembly elections will be a major test for Modi’s BJP to check if Modi wave still persists or has subsided after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
