17 students fall ill after having mid-day meal

Date:

Nawada: Seventeen students of a government primary school in Nawada district of Bihar fell ill on Wednesday after consuming mid-day meal.

Nawada Sadar Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Rajesh Kumar said the incident happened at Bajpur Primary School under Warsaliganj police station of the district.

“The students started vomiting after having mid-day meal. They were immediately rushed to a Primary Health Centre (PHC) located close by. They all have been treated and are now out of danger,” Kumar said.

All the children were admitted to a government-run primary health centre and are said to be out of danger. The children complained of uneasiness after the meal, officials said. The doctors who examined the children did not find any sign of poison in their bodies.

Samples of the meal have been collected by police for laboratory tests.

Around 50 children fell ill last week after a lizard was found in the mid-day meal at a government school in Sitamarhi district.

The mid-day meal scheme is running in 72,000 schools across Bihar, and 16 million students avail meals cooked under the scheme.
