Karnataka Government to take action against firms

Date:

BANGALORE:  In a bid to push private firms into appointing locals in jobs, Karnataka government on Thursday said that it will table a report, on locals appointed in companies set up under previous industrial policy, within the next 10 days. It also said that action would be taken against companies failing to comply.

“I have been asked to get details of how many locals have been appointed in various private companies that have been set up under the previous industrial policy in the next 10 days for discussions in the next cabinet meeting,” Labour Minister PT Parameshwara Naik said.

“The Cabinet will deliberate upon the steps to be taken for ensuring jobs for locals in private companies, including IT and BT,” Mr Naik added. Asked whether government would take action against companies for not giving private jobs to the locals, he said “Surely”.

The Minister said a cabinet meeting had earlier decided to evaluate the performance of private companies, including IT/BT and others on various grounds, including implementation of the Sarojini Mahishi report on jobs reservation for Kannadigas. Mr Naik said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is serious about the long-standing demand for reservation for locals in private companies.

The government also plans to bring 1.4 crore BPL families under the ambit of Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY), the Minister said.

Under the scheme, the families will get medical help worth Rs. 30,000, he added.
