Fierce gun battle in J&K

Date:

New Delhi: A fierce gun battle, which broke out on Monday night between security forces and militants, is still going on as the militants have holed up in a village in Pulwama district of South Kashmir, police said.

Security forces launched an operation in Hanjan village in Rajpora area of Pulwama following information about presence of militants there, a police official said. According to reports, forces including Army, SoG and CRPF have engaged three militants in Hanjan area of the district.

A joint team of the Army and police have laid a tight cordon around the area on Monday night. Concertina wires and search lights were laid around the village of Hajan Balla to stop the militants from sneaking out of the area under the cover of darkness.

The militants are believed to be locals and include one who is believed to have joined militant ranks on August 19 this year.

“We have input of presence of three local militants inside the house, the operation is on and fire is still coming from inside,” Bregadier Pramod, CO 44 RR, told Kashmir Life.

The trio has been identified as Altaf Rather commander of Jaish e Mohammad outfit, Showket and Farooq, residents of Aglar and Delwan villiages of Pulwama respectively.

Though the operation was suspended late on Monday night, it resumed early morning on Tuesday. There are no reports of any casualty on either side so far.
