The chants of ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’ can be heard on the streets of Maharashtra as the entire city is soaked in the fever of Ganesh Chaturthi. From celebrities to the common man, everyone celebrates the festival with much pomp and grandeur, and not to forget the ‘laddus’ and ‘modaks’.
On the auspicious day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people and sought the blessings of Lord Ganesh. “Ganpati Bappa Maurya….Greetings on Ganesh Chaturthi. On Ganesh Chaturthi, we bow to Lord Ganesh. May Lord Ganesh shower his blessings on us and enrich our lives with peace, joy & wisdom,†the Prime Minister said in a message released by his office.
The 10-day long festival is celebrated with much enthusiasm. India – especially Mumbai and Pune –transforms into a cultural bonanza for these ten days with music, dance and other events taking place throughout the festival.
Even the Bollywood and television celebrities wished a happy Ganesh Chaturthi to their fans.

Meanwhile, as part of its holistic anti-terror measures, the Mumbai Police has decided to reward alert citizens who spot unattended, suspicious objects in the vicinity of Ganesh pandals across the city. The Mumbai Police in association with ICICI Bank will reward the alert citizen with a gold coin. This initiative is part of its on-going ‘Mumbai Ke Liye 1 Minute’ drive, which appeals citizens to take out a minute from their busy schedule to look around if they spot a suspicious person, object or vehicle and call the police.
At least 25,000 posters informing people about the initiative would be pasted all across the city. In theatres also, the exercise would be advertised on the screens.
