Brazil’s Julius Caesar

Julio Cesar is now Brazil’s hero. But in 2010 World Cup, he was the villain because his poor judgment cost the country the quarterfinals against the Netherlands.

The national team’s goalkeeper, he has shown strength in this year’s games, helping Brazil reach the semi-finals after a nail-biting match with Chile.

In his blistering career, he has bagged several honours, including five Scudetti, the 2009–10 UEFA Champions League and the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup. He was awarded the Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year title in both 2009 and 2010, and was nominated for the 2009 Ballon d’Or, where he was voted into 21st place.

He was born on September 3 1979 in Duque de Caxias, Brazil.

Young footballer

Júlio César began his professional career with Clube de Regatas do Flamengo in 1997, to go on to become their goalkeeper later next year. His stint at Flamengo ended in 2005 after he had recorded 130 appearances.

Before Queen Park Rangers

In January 2005, Júlio César moved to Italian Serie A club Chievo Verona via Internazionale. Thanks to Serie A rules, it was not until In July 2005, following the deal between Chievo and Inter, that he officially signed a three-year contract with Internazionale. The deal cost Inter €2.45 million.

Life in Queen Park Rangers

On 29 August 2012, Júlio César announced that he had joined Premier League club Queens Park Rangers on a four-year contract. He made his debut for Rangers against London rivals Chelsea on 15 September.

International debut

Júlio César’s international career began in 2003, when he was often called up as a backup to Dida. His first international appearance came during the Copa América in 2004.
