Albert Jyrwas and Amar Sinha, activists of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) were picked up from the Shaw Guest House, based on reports from central intelligence and Meghalaya police. Both are wanted in several acts of terror in Meghalaya.

An STF officer said guest house authorities have been asked to immediately report any suspicious activities on their property. Though no weapons or currency has yet been found from the arrested duo, the weapons are mainly of Chinese make and the fake notes outsourced from China.

The HNLC has been accused of indulging in a number of illegal activities, including killing, abduction, robbery, arms smuggling, cattle smuggling and extortion in the Jaintia Hills coal belt.

The organisation has also been accused of circulating fake currency in the state, which is supported by the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan.
