Prayer hope and wait for the missing relatives

Date:

New Delhi: The relatives and friends of the five Indian passengers on board the Malaysian Airline are praying for a miracle.

The 44-year-old Kranti Pralhad Shirsath from Pune was on her way to visit her husband in Pyongyang, North Korea. Her elder son Rahul says, “We are monitoring all news channels and are in touch with the embassy as well. I haven’t given up hope.”

In Bareilly, the mother of the 51-year-old Chandrika Sharma recalls talking to her daughter just before she left for Malaysia to attend a conference. “I am hopeful that they will find her. Nothing can happen to her,” said Shakuntala Sharma.

Even as distraught families are being told to prepare for the worst, the Indian government has offered to provide the required assistance. “I have sent my condolences to the family of the missing. We’ll offer any assistance possible,” said External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid.
