CBI Chief’s comments land him in trouble

Date:

New Delhi: CBI director Ranjit Sinha has landed himself into a controversy with his comment, “The UPA government would have been very happy if former Gujarat home minister Amit Shah had been named in the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, made in an interview to The Economic Times.

“Clearing Shah is testimony to the fact that it is a fair and thorough investigation. We went strictly by evidence and found there was no prosecutable evidence against Shah,” said Sinha.

However, the CBI chief later issued a statement that he was misquoted, and there was no pressure on the investigating agency. The charge sheet was filed after proper and unbiased investigation.

While BJP welcomed Sinha’s comment stating, “CBI is trying not to be a ‘caged parrot.’ As was earlier when Congress tried to use it for political gains.” Congress blasted Sinha for his comments and said that is unfortunate.

JD(U) sought outright resignation of Sinha. “This comment goes on to prove that CBI’s probe used to be influenced by political parties,” it said.
